Tom Joyner Honors ASU as April’s School of the Month in 2008

Albany, GA - Nationally known radio personality Tom Joyner is lending a hand to Albany State University. As the University celebrates its 105th anniversary in April, ASU will also be honored by the Tom J o y n e r Foundation as the School of the Month. “Being selected as the Tom Joyner Foundation School of the Month is a tremendous honor,” said Angela Y. Getter, vice president for institutional advancement. “The recognition gives Albany State University the opportunity to raise even more funds for student scholarships.”

Each month the Tom Joyner Foundation designates a historically black college or university to receive the foundation’s support. During April listeners of the “Tom Joyner Show” will hear about ASU and have the opportunity to donate to the University through the show’s website during April. Money received by the Tom Joyner Foundation will be sent to ASU to be used for scholarships awarded through the Financial Aid Department.

Mr. Joyner is committed to helping students complete their college degrees at HBCUs,” Getter said. “He understands how important a college degree is for students who want to succeed in life. Now he’s helping ASU make that goal attainable for even more students.” Tom Joyner will help ASU celebrate its 105th anniversary during the Founders’ Day Convocation when he serves as the keynote speaker. The convocation will be held at 3 p.m. April 3, 2008
